Thats me next to Batman. These are friends of mine who dress up not only because they are fellow geeks but to help out children in need. |
I am a geek and I am proud
of it. According to Dictionary.com
(2012), is a noun and slang and is described as;
1.
a computer expert or enthusiast (a term of pride as self-reference, but often considered offensive when used by
outsiders.)
2. a peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, especially one
who is perceived to be overly intellectual.
3. a carnival performer who performs sensationally morbid or
disgusting acts, as biting off the head of a live chicken.
I think of myself as person
who is not ashamed to not be in the mainstream. I like to follow my own
interests, be it media, literature, or technology.
I know Star Trek isn’t real
and that Lord of the Rings is tale of fantasy. I enjoy these things for an escape
from reality. A reality filled with horror, sad stories, real evil. Escaping
into these stories are only temporary but they help make my rough days easier
to handle.
I grew up in a time without
technology. Born in a time where space exploration has just begun. I grew up
where I spent most of my day outside in the woods, making up adventures and the
highest bit of tech I was using was my bicycle.
Star Wars brought around a
change in my perspective of the world, and a revolution in entertainment fro
everyone.
I owned one of the first Apple
computers in my neighborhood, with a n Apple IIe when it first came out in the
mid 1980’s.
I read a ton of comic books
and attended comic book conventions when they were considered part of an
underworld of comic book fans.
I will discuss this world
and research other associated topics in the realm of ….A Geeks Life.

ReplyDeleteSorry, deleted a double post and it wiped both. Anyway, I had an apple IIC and rocked Karateka, spy hunter, and Wastelands... ... ... Until Bard's Tale came out then it was all about the hack and slash!
ReplyDeleteCraig,
ReplyDeleteYou’ve added some nice touches since I first checked out your blog. The colors and graphics, such as your use of videos have definitely made it more interesting.
You and I definitely suffer from the same lack of white space issue. It makes it harder to read, especially for the hard of seeing. Also, the fonts are too inconsistent, and while some contrast is pleasing to look at, some of these are more distracting than pleasant. Susan Young reminded me about thebacklight.com and their many tips on designing, which I will be reading up on over the long weekend. I am having a difficult time grasping the concept of blog design. I don’t understand the benefit of a blog versus a regular website. A website is so much easier to design. I can’t figure out how to apply headers and how to best utilize them if I could. You seem to be doing an excellent job.
